CHARLIZE THERON
Charlie Theron born 7 August 1975 is a South African actress. She started her acting career in the United States and rose to fame in the late 1990s following roles in The Devil's Advocate (1997) Mighty Joe Young (1998) and The Cider House Rules (1999). Theron won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster (2003) becoming the first African to win an Academy Award in a major acting category. She received another Academy Award nomination for her performance in North Country (2005). Theron became a US citizen in 2007 while retaining her South African citizenship. Charlize began her modeling career in 1991 aged 16 when she won a local modeling contest. She started modeling in Europe and came to New York a year later.
She didn't like being a model though and decided to try her luck with ballet which had been her biggest passion as a child. Unfortunately a knee injury prevented her from dancing. Her mother bought her one way ticket to Los Angeles in 1994 and Charlie started visiting all of the agents on Hollywood Boulevard but without any luck. She went to the bank to cash a check for 500 she'd got from her mother and became furious when she learned that the bank could not cash her check because it was an out state check. She made a scene and an agent gave her his card in exchange that she learn the language which she did by watching soap operas on TV.
Her first role was as a young mother in a park in a B film in 1995 but it was a non speaking role with three seconds of screen time. Heron has a son Jackson whose adoption was announced in March 2012. She lives in Los Angeles California. Theron became a naturalized citizen of the United States in May 2007 while retaining her South African citizenship. From 1997 to 2001 she dated Third Eye Blind front man Stephan Jenkins. Theron then began a relationship with Irish actor Stuart Townsend with whom she starred in Trapped (2002) and Head in the Clouds (2004). Theron and Townsend separated in January 2010 after nearly nine years together.
