ASHLEE SIMPSON

ASHLEE SIMPSON

Ashlee Nicole Simpson born October 3, 1984 is an American singer-songwriter and actress. She rose to prominence in 2004 with the success of her number-one debut album Autobiography and the reality series, The Ashlee Simpson Show. In October 2005, following a North American concert tour and a film appearance, Simpson released her second number one album, I Am Me. Ashlee started dancing at the age of 4 and by the time she was 11 enjoyed the status of being the youngest person ever admitted to the prestigious School of American Ballet. By 14, she was dancing professionally on the road with her older sister, singing sensation Jessica Simpson. She has spent the past three years on tour supporting her sibling and garnering her own fan base. She appears on the big screen this February in the film The Hot Chick (2002) alongside Rob Schneider. She already has television appearances under her belt including a guest-starring role on "Malcolm in the Middle" (2000). She has also appeared alongside her sister on "Saved by the Bell: The New Class" (1993), "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" (1996), "The View" (1997), "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (1992) and a Disney Christmas show and concert special. Simpson's third album, Bittersweet World, was released in April 2008.On January 4, 2005, Simpson performed "La La" at the halftime show for the 2005 Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. After her performance, many of the 72,000-plus spectators booed. Some viewers noted that Kelly Clarkson had performed in the show earlier to a much more positive reaction, and asserted that Simpson's performance was poor and very off key. Around the time of the petition, Cosmopolitan magazine chose Simpson to be on the cover of the February 2005 issue, naming her the "Fun Fearless Female of the Year". Ashlee Simpson is in a good place.
She has two multiplication records that debuted back to back at the top of the charts, and collectively sold more than four million copies in the U.S. alone. She has two sold-out tours under her belt, a tight knit family, a loyal fan base, and a burgeoning second career as an actress. So when it came time to create her third album, she wanted the music to represent where she was at in life. Her last taste of life on stage came in 2006 as she took on the lead role of Roxie Hart in London’s West End production of “Chicago” to critical acclaim, and following in the footsteps of such greats as Ann Reining who originally made the part famous on Broadway. To date, Ashlee is the youngest person to ever tackle the role of ‘Roxie’ and she did it with a grace and aplomb that she was invited to join the likes of Brooke Shields, Melanie Griffith, Rita Wilson, Chita Rivera, Babe Neuwirth, Joel Grey and Reining in a special one-night only 10th anniversary benefit performance of Chicago on Broadway.
